What to expect
While the CO2 laser delivers high-intensity energy, treatment is carefully controlled and your wellbeing is top priority. Usually, only local anesthetic is needed. (Oral sedation is an option to help you relax, if you are very nervous about the procedure.) Skin is cleansed and eye protection is provided. The clinician passes the laser hand piece in a pattern, over your skin. Laser resurfacing takes about 45 minutes for a focused area; up to two hours for full face treatment.
The treated area is bandaged. You are given thorough instruction for aftercare to minimize the risk of complication and to speed healing. Some swelling and redness are normal. With careful cleansing and use of topical ointments, you should be able to avoid scabbing. Sun protection and moisturizer are necessary during the healing period of 10 to 21 days. You may begin wearing oil-free makeup as your skin heals. Then, simply enjoy your softer, smoother, more youthful complexion.
