Submental liposuction is performed as an outpatient procedure in Dr. Obasi\u2019s office. The procedure requires only a local anesthetic, with IV sedation as an option. Surgery usually takes an hour or less. First, Dr. Obasi marks the area or areas to be treated. Then he makes a small incision, or a series of incisions, depending on your goals and where you\u2019re having fat removed. The area is infiltrated with a tumescent solution, which helps to anesthetize the area and reduce swelling. You may sit for a few minutes while the solution takes effect.<\/p>\n
Next, Dr. Obasi opens the skin where the incisions have been made and inserts a cannula or small tube, to loosen the fat and suction it out of the body. He carefully removes the fat in a way that sculpts your face to the desired shape. When he\u2019s finished, he might apply sutures, but they usually aren\u2019t necessary. Your wounds will close quickly on their own, but Dr. Obasi might advise you to wear a compression bandage for the first week after surgery. Most patients can expect some bruising, but you\u2019ll return to your normal activities within about two weeks.
