A breast implant is a foreign object. Each body responds differently to having a foreign object present. After the implant is placed, scar tissue forms a capsule around it. In some instances, this capsule may tighten or contract. How much or how little tightening occurs is unpredictable. It varies from patient to patient, and may not happen at all. It may occur in one or both breasts. If contracting does happen, it can cause the following problems.<\/p>\n
Surgical removal of the implant is the usual method of treatment for a capsular contracture. When possible, the surgeon uses the original incision site to remove the implant. Sometimes a larger incision is needed. Once the implant has been removed, the capsule of scar tissue is excised as well.
